FAQ

Who is Home Harmony Testing for?

Most of my clients have environmental sensitivities. However, Home Harmony Testing can benefit anyone who wants to optimize their sense of well-being and ensure their home environments supports them rather than holding them back.

What are the limitations of this testing?

No test is perfectly accurate 100% of the time. I do my best, but any test is subject to a low rate of human error.

Please do not commit to buying or renting a home solely based on my testing. The testing results are meant to be used as a starting point to help you rule out clearly unharmonious options. You still need to do your due diligence with visiting prospective homes, seeing how you feel there, and potentially having further inspection done.

Again, the major benefit of the testing is to help you put your energy, time, and money into pursuing options that are likely to work instead of shooting in the dark.

A few important considerations:

  • The photos need to be as up to date as possible. If they were taken a long time ago, the building’s environment could have changed by now. The next step for any location that tests well is to get current photos for follow-up testing (which is free) to make sure it’s still good.
  • Photos should show all the rooms and areas inside a building. Sometimes buildings will have mold or other problems localized to a small area, while the rest of the building may look fine.
  • When testing outdoors air, the photos are just a snapshot in time. Sometimes the health of an outdoor environment can shift based on wind direction, weather conditions, season, or other factors. For any place you are seriously considering, please find outdoor photos from different times of year and showing different weather conditions. Updated outdoor photos are also included in the free follow-up testing.
  • Please avoid photos that are heavily altered or Photoshopped. This alters the energetic frequency information and can affect results.
  • Please avoid sending videos. They are often blurry when paused, and it is difficult to make sure I have been able to thoroughly test all areas of the building. However, if you only have a video, I can still work with it.

How does the Home Harmony Test compare to the ERMI test?

As shown before, Home Harmony Test is much more affordable, accessible, and timely than the ERMI test.

Additionally, the ERMI test, while being the ‘best’ of commonly available mold tests, has its limitations.

There can be false positives. This happens in older homes that have had a lot of time to accumulate mold spores and DNA in the dust, for example from mold-contaminated items being brought inside. This doesn’t mean that the house itself has an active mold problem. But the ERMI score may be elevated.

There can also be issues with false negatives. In newer buildings that have been very intensively cleaned, there is very little dust to sample, so the ERMI can come back low even if the building has mold issues.
